Friday Night Lights Week 9 Review

The Montgomery Advertiser

As the regular season comes close to an end and the state gears up for area championships and playoff runs upsets and surprise games were prevalent throughout the weekend.

And to start off a hand clap is in order for the BTW Tuskegee Golden Eagles as they pick up their 1st win of the season as they beat ACA on the road by a score of 42-37. It must feel great for the players and coach Heard to be mentioned early in the report and not in the unfortunate segment they have frequented throughout the season that comes later on.

In our WVAS game of the week between the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs vs. the Opelika Bulldogs in a key 6A conference game the bulldogs were able to pull away from the Mustangs 38-14 on the road to take control of the region.

In other notable games: Wetumpka outlasted Selma 31-14,Pike Road continues their incredible undefeated run as they blowout Montgomery  Academy 42-14, Trinity downs Ashford 48-14, the Generals of Lee have hit a skid as they drop their 3rd consecutive game to Enterprise 29-27, and Auburn picks up a huge road win as they beat the very good Prattville Lions 17-3.

Also, St. James runs wild on Prattville Christian 55-13, Chilton County takes down Marbury 38-21, Powerhouse Central Phenix City beats down JD 49-6, Undefeated Reeltown does the same to Vincent by a score of 42-6, Park Crossing falls to Russell County 44-33, and Bullock county holds on vs Southside 35-24.

And the run continues for the Montgomery Catholic Knights as they stay unbeaten and pick up a strong win on the road versus a very game T.R. Miller team 26-21.

As for our proverbial football corners they had several stops to make throughout the state this week as it was several lopsided games as expected. The “Body Bag” games of the week are Luverne over Calhoun 59-6, Lanett over Verbena 40-0, Goshen zips up Central Hayneville 56-6, and Demopolis is charged with the massacre of Jemison 43-0.

Tune in Friday as we wrap up the regular season with our Friday Night Lights Week 10 Preview.
