Friday Night Lights Week 2 Playoff Review

The Montgomery Advertiser

Shock and Awe is the best way to sum up the Alabama High School Football Playoffs so far. With major upsets and blowout games not many saw the playoffs shaping up this way.

We get started this week with the Park Crossing Thunderbirds as Cinderella’s slipper still fits after midnight as the now red hot Thunderbirds win again beating another heavy favorite in the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs by a score of 35-32. PC back doored their way into the playoffs  after finishing the regular season at only 3-7 have now beat the #1 team in the state in Saraland and now a very good Mustangs team to advance to the 3rd round of the playoffs.

Also, in another shocking outcome the undefeated Pike Road Patriots who have been rolling all season lose at home to heavy underdog Mobile Christian in blowout fashion 28-10 ending their season at 11-1.

Oh, but we’re not done yet! As for our WVAS games of the week 1st St. James whose only loss of the season was to aforementioned Pike Road went on the road to face a very good Flomaton team who also only had one loss on the season. The Trojans unfortunately traveled home crushed as they lose a heartbreaker by a score of 20-19 ending their season at 10-2.

In our other WVAS game of the week Powerhouse Central Phenix City took care of business unlike others vs. Prattville beating them 24-6.

In other games Catholic kept their championship hopes alive winning a defensive battle over Handley 9-6, Greenville’s hopes are shattered as they fell to Bibb County 12-6, Goshen also came up short losing to Leroy 35-24, Spanish Fort blows out Wetumpka 63-21, Auburn High school fared better than their college namesakes as they shutout McGill-Toolen 26-0, Montgomery Academy’s season comes to an end vs. T.R. Miller 21-14, Opelika stays alive outlasting St. Paul’s Episcopal 20-10, and Luverne’s run comes to an abrupt end as they lose to Long 28-13.

Tune in this Friday as we bring you the Friday Night Lights Week 3 Playoff Preview and see if Park Crossing and others can keep the dream alive.
