By Teen gets jail time for massive hotel fire in Tallassee
Wetumpka, Al – A teenager who had pleaded guilty to
arson for the fire that destroyed the historic Hotel Talisi in
Tallassee has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
Dylan Carroll had pleaded guilty in July to burglary, arson and
criminal mischief charges.
WSFA-TV reports that Carroll was sentenced Tuesday morning for
the blaze that also destroyed a nearby consignment shop. After
serving his time in the Elmore County jail, Carroll will spend
another five years on supervised probation.
Authorities say the fire was started to cover up a break-in in
the consignment shop.
The Talisi was built in the 1920s and had just undergone a major
renovation and reopened weeks before the November 2009 fire. The
owners began rebuilding the hotel in September.
