A 22-year-old Florida man is now in custody in connection with the death of an Alabama State University student. Montgomery Police report Jalil Bivens is charged with murdering 20-year-old Ava Walters, a Health Information sophomore, both from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. MPD report Walter was found dead Sunday morning in the 1600 block of Interstate Park Drive. Bivens is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
Faulkner University is mourning the loss of its incoming freshman quarterback. Eighteen-year-old Qadir Lyle was found dead in Wetumpka's Corn Creek Park. Authorities say he slipped under water on Friday and did not resurface. Lyle's body was found the following afternoon. The university shared the devastating news, saying, "Qadir came to Faulkner with a future full of promise, beginning a new chapter as a college student, teammate, classmate, and friend. His loss touches our Faulkner family deeply."
A juvenile suspect is in custody following a shooting at a Waffle House that left four people injured Friday night. Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford confirmed the suspect turned himself in on Sunday, while all victims were in stable condition as of Saturday morning. Four teens were injured in a drive-by shooting at a Gadsden Waffle House late Friday, shortly after the Gadsden City football game. With the suspect now in custody, Ford said the case will be handed over to the proper authorities to "let justice prevail."
