The Montgomery County Commission has approved a ten-year Solid Waste Management Plan with an eye on reducing the amount of garbage sent to the Tallasee landfill. A Montgomery Advertiser story reports that from 2005 to 2014 the amount of waste collected nearly doubled. About 12,000 tons of trash was collected for Montgomery County last year and that number is projected to rise to more than 16,000 tons this year. The plan includes options for the county to offer portable recycling containers along with a central recycling location. The hope is to eliminate 25 to 50 percent of the waste. The Montgomery County Commission will review options at future meetings.

Heisman Finalist
Alabama running back Derrick Henry has been named as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Other finalists include Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey. Since 2009, Alabama has had five players, including Henry, who have been finished in the top five in voting for the Heisman Trophy. Running Back Mark Ingram is the only Alabama player to ever win the Heisman Trophy, and was the last running back in college football to win the award. The Trophy will be awarded Dec. 12th.
