November 27,2008 – Alabama State University is preparing for the big showdown as the ASU Hornets tackle the Tuskegee Golden Tigers in the 85th Annual Turkey Day Classic. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. at Cramton Bowl.
Two state rainy day savings accounts took effect after a state canvassing board certified the results from the general election. The accounts went into effect Tuesday. The accounts could provide as much as $620 million to lessen or prevent state budget cuts this year.
A key figure from the civil rights movement sentenced to 15 years in prison for incest has been released on bond while he appeals his conviction. It's unlikely the Rev. James L. Bevel will ever serve another day in jail even if his conviction stands because he's been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Doctors estimate the 71-year-old has only a few months to live.
