School board rejects budget for fiscal year 2018

On a 4 to 3 vote, the Montgomery County Board of Education yesterday rejected a budget proposal for the 2018 fiscal year. At issue is the sale of Georgia Washington Middle School to the town of Pike Road– a majority of board members are against it. Mary Briers says she would have voted for an alternative spending plan that Chief Education Officer Reginald Eggleston refused to bring up. The sale of the school to Pike Road would drum up almost 10 million dollars. But Briers and other members would like to see the money raised by other means. Community meetings are being held next week to give area residents a chance to weigh in on the proposal. The first is being held Monday night at 6 at Georgia Washington School.
