CrimeStoppers Year End Report

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has tallied its year end totals in tips and reward money for 2014.  Executive Director Tony Garrett says the group received 720 tips that led to 191 arrests.  Reward money of $11,420 was paid out to those calling in information.  He says while murders were down last year, some other crimes kept pace.  CrimeStoppers is a non-profit organization that serves 17 law enforcement agencies in the River Region.  They began in Montgomery in 1997 before expanding in 2000.

No Arrests

Still no arrests in connection with Wednesday night's shooting in the parking lot of a Montgomery Wal-Mart.  Police have said several people were involved in a dispute inside the Eastern Boulevard location that ultimately culminated with gunfire outside the store.  Two people were injured.  Authorities say a man received life-threatening injuries and a woman was taken to the hospital with less serious injuries.

Sex Ring Sentence

A Baldwin County judge has sentenced a woman to 219 years in prison for her role in an incestuous sex ring accused of molesting children for years.  Wendy Holland showed no emotion as the judge sentenced her to what amounts to a life sentence Thursday.  Jurors convicted the 35-year-old woman of multiple sex-related charges last month.  Another defendant, William Brownlee, got a 20-year prison sentence.
