The road to a high school football State championship has begun and as some teams move on others are feeling the disappointment of defeat.
Starting us off in a HUGE upset the Park Crossing Thunderbirds who back doored their way into the playoffs at only 3-7 pulled off the biggest shocker of the playoffs knocking off the #1 team in the class of 6A Saraland who was undefeated on the season by a score of 30-27.
Macon-East fell to Glenwood 28-14, Gordo shutout Bullock County 36-0, Wetumpka stays alive as the narrowly edge out Bessemer city 22-21, St. Paul’s Episcopal ends Lanier’s season with a 20-14 victory, Greenville kept their hopes alive as they beat Citronelle 22-12, and Faith Academy takes care of business vs. Charles Henderson shutting them out 31-0.
Also, Pleasant Grove held court against Chilton County adding yet another shutout to our report with a 28-0 victory, Auburn did the same beating Murphy 37-0, Trinity ends their season falling to Andalusia 24-6, Opelika over McAdory 48-20, Montgomery Academy stays alive winning over Winfield 24-20, and Briarwood Christian sends Marbury packing 42-26.
Other notable games: Hillcrest 28 ACA 21, Reeltown keeps rolling over Zion chapel 56-0, Selma falls to Hueytown 44-24, powerhouse Central Phenix City beats down Fairhope 45-7, and St. James continues their quest with a 23-20 victory over Oakman.
As for our WVAS games of the week Catholic continues their undefeated season beating Williamson 24-6, Prattville held off Theodore 24-17, and Stanhope Elmore wins easily over Paul Bryant 35-13.
