Montgomery, Alabama – They have been invited, but it's not clear if they will attend. President Barack Obama's former Chicago pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and U.S. Attorney General nominee Eric Holder are among the guests invited to attend a Selma event in March commemorating the 44th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday."

The theme for the event this year is "The Bridge to the White House." Organizers say the "Bloody Sunday" attack on marchers at the Edmund Pettus Bridge 44 years ago served as a stepping stone for Mr. Obama's election as the nation's 44th president.

Montgomery, Alabama – MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Another group of Alabama Army National
Guard personnel are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.
According to Army Sgt. Katrina Timmons, a Guard spokeswoman, a
16 member team will deploy in June and serve about 9 months
Timmons said the unit will train Afghan soldiers and police
Another team of Alabama-based soldiers are in Afghanistan
performing a similar mission. Timmons said the unit could return to
the state sometime in the next two months.

Montgomery, Alabama – President Barack Obama is receiving one of the first pieces of legislation for his consideration from Congress today, and it has an Alabama connection.

The wage discrimination bill is based on a case involving Lilly Ledbetter, an employee with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Gadsden who, after 19 years, discovered that a male counterpart earned more than she for the same work.

Tokyo,Japan – TOKYO (AP) - Honda Motor Co. says it's cutting production in
Japan and North America by an additional 50,000 vehicles amid a
severe slump in global sales.
Japan's No. 2 automaker says output in North America will fall
by 29,000 units, affecting Honda's three plants in the region --
Lincoln, Alabama; Ontario, Canada; and Marysville/East Liberty,
Ohio. Due to the production cuts, Honda's overall output in North
America will drop by 12 percent to 1.26 million units in the
current fiscal year ending March 31.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama legislators expect to make deep
cuts in education spending for the next school year, but an
Associated Press survey of lawmakers found sharp differences
between the House and Senate about how to do it.
In the House, 41 percent of those surveyed favor cutting K-12
schools less than two-year colleges and four-year universities.
Only 13 percent of the Senate felt that way.
In the Senate, 50 percent of those surveyed supported reducing

Montgomery, Alabama – The Montgomery Police Officer injured in a traffic accident almost two weeks ago has died. Officer Joshua Patrick Broadway died Sunday afternoon.

The 21 year old Broadway had served as a Montgomery police officer for just two years. On January 15th, Broadway was on patrol traveling South on the Troy Highway when a northbound vehicle took a sudden left toward Virginia Loop Road striking Broadway's police cruiser and wrapping it around a utility pole.

The driver of the other vehicle was not identified and was not injured.

Montgomery, Alabama – The Montgomery man facing double murder charges in Huntsville is not new to charges of committing violent crime.

Huntsville Police are holding 28 year old Wilbert James Smith for allegedly killing two male college students in August 2008.

Washington, D.C. –
WASHINGTON (AP) - Ticket holders who never made it to Barack
Obama's inauguration are going to get a few commemorative items.
Thousands of ticket holders were kept waiting in a tunnel below
the National Mall on Tuesday and never made it to the ceremony.
Others said access to the Capitol grounds was cut off.
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies said
that those with blue, silver and purple tickets who didn't make it
will receive copies of the swearing-in invitation and program,
