Good luck if you're looking to see what Americans think about the "Fast and Furious" gun-running controversy that has escalated into a constitutional fight between President Obama and the GOP-led House.

The No. 1 concern of voters is clear: In survey after survey, the economy comes out on top. But the impact of Fast and Furious, the since-killed program that funneled weapons from U.S. gun dealers to Mexican drug gangs, is a lot murkier.

The Drop: UZ Sets A Trap

Jun 20, 2012

There's an overwhelming amount of electronic music available on the web, and every week a new crop emerges. Countless remixes, edits and mashups make their way through the web every day. It's a lot to sift through; everyone could use a little help.

The music I'm obsessed with this week is an EP called Trap S--- by a producer named UZ.

We don't know much about UZ — I spoke with him over email, but his alias was about all the guy would reveal about himself. The name of his EP is a profane piece of slang that the producer traces back to hip-hop.

The results are in and it turns out most of you who voted in our mid-year poll really love Jack White's explosive and eclectic Blunderbuss. But the race was close: White's album beat-out the Alabama Shakes record Boys & Girls by less than 25 votes. Beach House's Bloom, one of the most popular records ever in our First Listen series, came in at third. The Shins' Port Of Morrow and Of Monsters And Men's My Head Is An Animal round out the top five.

Today is the summer solstice in the western hemisphere: It marks the longest day of the year and also marks the first day of summer.

That's pretty obvious in the northeast today. Here in Washington, D.C., it's still 97 degrees and it's almost 7 p.m. The AP reports that New York City, Boston and Philadelphia all hit the 90s.

The AP adds:

During a recent video to the KCRW studios, Ane Brun danced her way through a performance of her single "Do You Remember," her hands waving in the air as if she were conducting the song.

We were stunned by the photographs coming out of a wildfire near Athens today. They were taken by Angelos Tzortzinis after a fire that burned inside an air force base.

The AP moved a story about it, earlier today. But Tzortzinis found that the fire had also affected an encampment of Romas and took these haunting images for the Agence France Presse:

Pie Week Heats Up at NPR HQ

Jun 20, 2012

In preparation for Pie Week (airing July 2-7), and just in time for the 4th of July, Morning Edition and The Salt are asking listeners and staff to weigh in on the food that never misses a picnic: pie. The research got heated yesterday at an in-house pie contest where NPR staff submitted sweet and savory treats representing regions across the country.

Minnesota is seing the worst flooding in decades. Heavy flooding in Duluth caused the evacuations of homes and also caused the death 11 zoo animals at the Superior Zoo in Duluth.

Minnesota Public Radio reports that two seals escaped from their exhibits. MPR reports:

"Love," wrote Matt Groening, "is a snowmobile racing across the tundra and then suddenly it flips over, trapping you underneath. At night, the ice weasels come."

Say that last bit out loud: At night, the ice weasels come.
