December 1,2008 –
On this date, December1,1955, a Black Montgomery seamstress, Mrs. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a White man. Four days later, on December 5th, the Montgomery Improvement Association was formed and elected 26 year old Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. to serve as its president and spokesman. MIA led the city on a 381 day standoff with the City of Montgomery over its segregated public bus system.

Activist Angela Davis will visit Alabama State University today. Davis will speak at the Alabama State University Acadome beginning at 7 o'clock this evening. The event is free and open to the public. Davis' visit is part of the Ralph D. Abernathy Civil Rights Lecture Series hosted by the National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at ASU.

An 18 year old Montgomery man faces capital murder charges in connection with the death of a Selma man. Montgomery Police have charged Sam Crenshaw in the November 2r,2008 death of Frank York of Selma.

It's not a common word used to describe the weather in Alabama, but snow fell in parts of North West Alabama today. National Weather Service forecasters say the light dusting of snow did not stick, and there is very little chance of central Alabama receiving any frozen precipitation this week.
