Republican legislative leaders want to the Alabama Supreme Court to decide whether the governor gets to sign private school tax credits into law. The judge's order keeps the governor from signing the bill into law while the judge considers a lawsuit filed by the Alabama Education Association.
Bill Vetoed
The Alabama House has voted to uphold the governor's veto of a bill to allow teachers and other school personnel to train as reserve sheriff's deputies. The bill was a school safety measure by Democrat Johnny Mack Morrow of Red Bay. Morrow says law enforcement officials and educators in his northwest Alabama county had endorsed the measure.
Box Cutter Attack
Police in Birmingham say a woman used a box cutter to slash three officers who were trying to serve her with a warrant. Authorities say the three were trying to serve the warrant Wednesday. Police say one officer was hospitalized and two others were treated at the scene.
