An announcement for the new home of a U-S trainer jet facility could come in the next four months. That was part of an update provided by Joe Turnham, the Executive Director for the Macon County Economic Development Authority to a Montgomery civic club yesterday. Tuskegee is among three finalist cities to land the T-100 trainer jet project. Leonardo DRS has chosen Tuskegee as the site for a 250 million dollar manufacturing facility, should it be chosen for the contract. Turnham says the recent decision by the Air Force to bring the F-35 fighter jet to Montgomery can only help.
The facility would employ as many as 750 people and create another 4-thousand supplier jobs. Officials have estimated the project would have around a 300 million dollar economic impact. St. Louis, Missouri and Greenville,South Carolina are the two other cities in the running for the facility.
