State Officials Promote the Black Belt Region
Montgomery,Alabama – (AP) - A new initiative seeks to take advantage
of what's abundant in the economically depressed Black Belt region
of central and west Alabama - deer, fish, ducks, rich soil and wide
open spaces.
A group of government officials, business owners and wildlife
activists announced Tuesday the effort to promote outdoor
activities across 22 mostly rural, low income counties. The region
is known as Alabama's Black Belt because of it's band of rich,
black soil.
The initiative, known as "Alabama Black Belt Adventures" will
begin in July with an advertising campaign and the launching of a
Web site.
